Hooray for Birthdays! , or, alternately, OMG for Birthdays.

So I turned 21 yesterday. It was awesome.

Kyle had to work in the morning, but he brought me home Arrested Development Season 1 on DVD, as well as Jurassic Park, and a bouquet of lilies, because he is ever so sweet. He and I had some time to ourselves while Shem was still out at work, and then when Shem came home, we bought rum, limes and coke, and played Presidents and Assholes (at which I ROCKED, I was even President for a round!) until 1, at which point we put everything down and drunkenly played some Super Smash Brothers.

All in all it was a perfectly acceptable birthday, which is how I expected it to turn out.

I know that sounds very anticlimactic, and it kind of was, but this weekend I promise I will go out and get trashed. In public.

The part that's Hooray! is that when I was in Houston I joined the Sephora Beauty Insiders club or whatever, and as a member of that club, I got a free tube of Bliss Body Butter for my birthday! I am so so so so soooooooo excited.
I don't even care that much about the drinking. I've been binge-drinking myself into the books since I was 16. At this point, I do not need instruction or a special occasion. I feel like I've been 21 for years now, really.

The only emotion this birthday has really installed in me is fear. Because now I'm officially Getting Old. There are no more birthdays left that represent any kind of positive milestone for me; after this, it's 25, then 30. And then 40. FORTY.

Jesus Christ. This was supposed to be a Hooray post, not an OMG post. Sorry. I will now go and edit the title. But I just can't fight the regret I feel when I consider the idea that women start aging at 20, and I have "put off" buying a good anti-wrinkle cream - or whatever it is that one buys for this kind of thing, serum? What? - for a WHOLE YEAR, a year which could have been spent preserving the baby-like freshness of my cheek...365 whole days!

In other news, I got the job for which I interviewed on Friday, and that's very exciting, but we never got to the topic of, um, payment? during the interview, and as any of you who have heard anything about LA know, that's the one thing that I wanted to talk about the whole time. So I was forced to do the indelicate thing and respond to my future boss's "welcome to the company!" email with a "yes, I'm very excited, but how much money are we talking about here?" email. Fuck. Ah well, she already offered me the job, this isn't some kind of college-application thing where they can rescind their offer if my GPA drops below a 3.0 or if my degree of politeness suddenly takes a brief but alarmingly steep decline. Right? So I start the job on July 24th, at which point I will give you all more information regarding my duties and whatnot. For now, though, I'm going to play on the internet some more and watch Shem play Legend of Zelda: Wind Waker.
