"AUSTIN 09!"

I promised you an entry about my Austin Weekend, and so you shall read an entry about my Austin Weekend. It won't be a good one, but we'll struggle through this together, okay? Eventually it will all be over.

I flew into Austin at noon on Friday (no classes FTW!) with the full intention of hanging out all day, drinking that night, and then working on a Top Secret Project with John all day Saturday. Instead, I hung out with Lauren all day (until John came in from work, all "Honey, I'm HOOOOME!") and waited for Marion to drive up from Houston. We ate dinner at Madame Mam (or is it Mam's?) which was a Thai restaurant at which every single dish was spicy as fuck. I had panang curry that I couldn't finish because it was so hot and there was just so much of it. Marion broke into a sweat and had to order a bottle of soy milk. After dinner, we went to the Flying Saucer, which is a bar that specializes in beer. We had a billion cheese fries and fell asleep at 4 in the morning. Lauren's not lying: her inflatable queen-sized mattress is THE BOMB.
On Saturday, John took Marion, Robert, and I to the Farmer's Market while Lauren was at work. Here's a video.

Do you like my exasperated groan at the end? I do. I'm planning to splice this and other videos that I take in Austin over the semester into a little movie! I guess I'll do it during finals week, haha.

After the Farmer's Market, we all went back home and played Left 4 Dead, which is pretty good. I racked up most Friendly Fire points, since I kept getting separated from my teammates and then firing blindly in their direction as they got swarmed by zombies (I don't want to brag or anything, but I'm pretty good at video games). Then Lauren came home, and we watched Mulholland Dr. FUCKED UP, obviously. Marion regaled us with her theories on what the movie was about. Then we went to dinner - we had Chinese - and then to the Alamo Draft House, where we saw the movies that were nominated for this year's Oscar in Best Animated Short. There was one in particular that I quite enjoyed: John and Karen. You should definitely check it out if you get the chance.
It was midnight by the time we got back to the apartment and Lauren had to go to work early, so we said goodnight to her and Marion and I watched Reality Bites. I totally agree with John here in that if I had seen it in 1997 or whenever, just having graduated college, I would have been like OMG I RELATE SO HARD RIGHT NOW. As it stands, I only relate kind of flaccidly.

Look forward to more posts and videos from Austin in the upcoming months (I'm starting to experiment with the Jaws Effect, so that should be interesting...), and more videos in general as we lead up to SXSW. For now, I'm off to watch Fatal Attraction instead of reading Chaucer.

DUDE Chris has Left 4 Dead. What a crazy game. I, too, prefer to fire blindly towards zombies and friends.
